Arte Américas - ❀ Isabelle O'Neill ❀, Week 1

☙❂✵Week 1✵❂❧

❦    Hi guys! I hope everyone had a great first and second week at their internships!! My internship began on July 16th, which put me a bit behind everyone else.

My first day at Arte Américas consisted mostly of a tour of the newest exhibition, "F. John Sierra: A Retrospective." F. John Sierra is a local artist and actually one of the founders of Arte Américas; this exhibition explores his life and impact on Fresno, California.

❦    My second day was spent preparing for the Arte Pero Later program, an event that takes place every Thursday when Arte opens later in the day. The event was a plant swap, where attendees brought plants and swapped with others. We watched a documentary called The Garden, and I highly recommend that everyone watch it.

❦
Day 3 was another event, the volunteer party! All Arte volunteers were celebrated and treated to pizza. I had a lot of fun meeting some of the people who help make the events so special. Everyone was so nice! I even got to draw on the sign.

❦     On Saturday (day 4), I came in to help prepare and study how Arte Américas facilitates their own bilingual storytime program. The kids read, My Mind is a Mountain,  and completed a really cute art activity.

❦     On day 5, I helped set up for an arte workshop, which showcased the work of a local, spotlighted artist. Luckily, there were enough materials for me to participate as well! It was like a combination of a lesson and an art activity. We learned about the sun stone calendar used by the Aztecs, as well as our own symbols from the day we were born.

Look at how cool this is.

This week was very eventful, but I am loving my internship so far, and cherishing everything I am learning about the community.

Thank you all for reading, and gracias Ford!!!
