To help me settle into the space, my first assignment was to inspect and catalog items that the CRC no longer needed. Once I completed this, I was allowed to choose 1-2 pieces from the collection to research. My job was to compile information about the piece and its artist to later create an audio stop (a brief audio guide) for visitors. For this project, I chose a piece by Michael Lucero because of his focus on the relationship between colonial and indigenous traditions in Hispanic culture, and a piece by Marilyn Levine for her integration of science into the arts.

In addition to this assignment, I was instructed to create a guide of indigenous pieces and artists at the CRC and ASU art museum. I am still working on this, but some of the most notable artists include Maria Martinez, Charles Loloma, Nampeyo, and Roxanne Swentzell.

On Wednesday, I worked at the art museum. I got to meet several of the staff responsible for bringing the museum to life, all of whom were very sweet. I was invited to sit in on a discussion between the curators and special guests about the role of technology/AI in museums. This was extremely interesting, and it showed me that while it may raise concerns, it can also be utilized to make art more accessible and interactive to everyone.
On Thursday, I began working on one of the projects I was most excited for-planning the art museum's Mexican Independence Day celebration. I spent much of the day researching possible caterers, entertainment, and crafts.
I was given the day off on Friday so that I could lead story time at the Tempe Public Library! I had such a nice time talking to the librarian, parents, and kids. I was joined by YAP alumnus Denis from the 2017 cohort (you may remember her from the robot workshop!) and Veronica from the 2014 cohort. I was a bit nervous beforehand, but everything went smoothly and I loved my experience!
Overall, I have had a wonderful time and have met so many amazing people. I can't wait for next week, and I'll see you soon!
