ASU Ceramic Research Center- Bianca Ybarra, Week 3
Hello everyone! I can't believe week 3 is done already- time really goes by fast! For this past week's schedule, I worked Monday and Friday remotely, Tuesday at the Art Museum, and Wednesday and Thursday at the CRC.
Let's Get Into It!
On Tuesday, I started my day off by joining a meeting between the director of the Art Museum and the Learning and Co-Creation team, which I work for. I learned about their upcoming programs and events, and how they plan to strengthen their presence in the community. It was interesting to listen to, and I got to order Thai food! 😋
I finished creating the Indigenous Ceramic guide last week, and I finally finished the ceramic audio recordings on Wednesday. The CRC is set to open on Wednesday, so after I finished the recordings, my supervisor had me create a slideshow. It will be displayed on the TV, and contains information on upcoming events and exhibitions.
The slideshow didn't take very long to create, and I was done with it by Thursday. My new assignment might be my favorite so far-I get to design a wall. The CRC has a large blank wall that my supervisor wants to turn into an educational and interactive space. The idea is to give visitors a beginner's understanding of ceramics: the different types of glazes, clay forms, vessels, etc. I already have a good understanding of ceramics from high school, so it's fun to combine my prior knowledge with research and creativity. The CRC has a set of ceramic pieces that show the process of throwing a cylinder. My supervisor is interested in using images of the pieces for the display. Additionally, she wants to learn more about the artist, so I have to research him. There isn't much information about him online, so I had to search the artist archives.
