El Paso Museum of History – Andres Valle, Week 1

El Paso Museum of History – Andres Valle, Week 1

Hi, y'all!

Since I started the week of the 30th and didn't know about the blog, excuse me for the lack of or bad pictures!

This is not edited, btw. Just how I look all the time.

My time, so far, at the El Paso Museum of History has been nothing short of AMAZING! On Tuesday, my wonderful, awesome supervisor, Nora—who I so deeply appreciate, such is the nature of a museum—had me start off by walking around the museum, getting a feel for it, ya know!? She then introduced me to the rest of the staff—Jennifer, Jessica, Cindy, and Mariam, just to name a few—and let me know what to expect in the coming weeks. From there, I stuffed envelopes for an upcoming exhibit, got my login to the computer I would be working on, and the day ended—FIRST DAY IN THE BOOKS!

The general role, as an intern, I've been assigned is to assist with community events, understanding that, although small, the El Paso Museum serves as a place of cultural exchange—learning history often not taught to El Paso students. I've also been in collaboration with my supervisor on getting the word out about the Young Ambassadors Program; nearly 80 percent of El Paso is Hispanic, serving as a border city, and my school is 91.8 percent. Why aren't all El Paso seniors applying? I want to expand the reach of Young Ambassadors, informing students of the benefits—hopefully this is something able to come to fruition!

The following Wednesday and Thursday, I spent the entire day(s) finding all seven virtues in scanning museum documents and uploading them to Digie, a digital museum open to the public—the El Paso Museum is one of the only museums ever to have this; I found it fascinating! All three hundred photos were uploaded individually, one at a time. My supervisor and I then discussed what I wanted to frame my capstone project around: I chose mental health through culture.

Friday we all had off for America Day, but that about wraps it up! NEXT BLOG DROPPING NEXT WEEK. MAKE SURE TO TURN ON THOSE NOTIFICATIONS AND HIT THAT SMASH BUTTON!

With gratitude and kindness,

Andres the baddest :D
