Museum of Latin American Art- Giselle Bustos- Week 1
Hey everyone! I’m so excited to share a little bit about how I’ve began my internship in the city of Long Beach!
This week along with the rest of the month I have been assigned a role as a communications staff. Within this role I have been tasked to take videos, pictures, testimonies, and more from students participating in the 2025 MOLAA Blingual Multicultural summer camp!
Some tools and tech I have been using include a canon camera which I have learned alot about within a week… and even the Canva app which I am more familiar with.
A couple activities here at summer camp this week have been very STEAM based. I have assisted and captured kids making kites based of cultural traditions from Guatemala. Kids made "Barriletes", and got to fly their kites made out of bamboo and tissue paper! I have seen how interactive art and hands-on activity really sparks the curiosity of these kids. Ending this week, the museum and I are looking forward in assisting the little campers with displaying their art to their family and friends. Families came in today Friday, the day I am publishing this vlog, and got to exhibit all the art they're kids have completed from 1-3pm.
These experiences have increase my knowledge in understanding the inner work of museums and cultural organizations because the use of lessons and activity educate our youth. These children campers will then apply what they learn to story tell beyond MOLAA where more young minds will gain curiosity towards Guatemalan culture, STEM fields, Peruvian art, and more from what we got to do this week.
This Practicum experience has taught me a lot about youth practice and definitely how media, marketing, and communications can help spread information on various opportunities for students to explore the arts.
I believe this first week within my Practicum experience connect with the mission of the Young Ambassadors because we are young Latino ambitious students who got to explore arts, sciences, and fields in humanities. Very similar to MOLAA summer camp, these kiddos are gaining crucial lived experiences to foster future generations of leaders. I am very excited to continue my couple of weeks and update you all with my journey.
Thanks for watching, see ya! Giselle B
