Oregon Museum of Science and Industry - Keila Gonzalez Salazar, Week 1

Keila G @ OMSI!

Hello everyone!!!!!!!! I apologize for the late post, but there have been technical difficulties along the way. But fear not, my wonderful post, which you all have been waiting for, is here now. Hehe :) Enjoy!

During my first week at OMSI, I have had the opportunity to do many cool and amazing things!

On Thursday, we started off the day with our morning meeting. During our meeting, we usually introduce ourselves and answer a question of the day. For example, "What is something that gives you childhood joy?" After that, we ended the meeting with an icebreaker and went to start our tasks of the day!
Later that Thursday, the other interns and I had the opportunity to sit in on a presentation by a local non-profit advertising company called Avenue!!! The presenters were very nice and so inspiring!!!!!! They were super duper cool! At the end of the presentation, they gave us info on a way to get internship opportunities as seen to the right!!

On Friday, I worked more on the development of my project! I also got to visit OMSI's TTC! Which stands for Teen Tech Center! It's a very cool space, specifically for teens to enjoy their time at OMSI! There are different amounts of resources in there! There are materials to draw, paint, sew, make buttons, computers, instruments, and many other cool things!!!! They even have a 3D printer and you can make your own stickers!!!!! OMG Super cool right?!!! Anyways, I got to visit there and in the photo I took, you can see the wonderful view outside of the Willamette River and all the beautiful drawings teens drew on the window. I also got taught how to use a sewing machine!!! (It was to make a prototype of my art project!!! Which you all will see soon!!!) Patience is key though!!
On my last day of my first week, one of the staff and I got to go check out two farmers' markets in Gresham!!!  We decided to check them out to gain insight and research on what we can do for our own community outreach booth that we hope to have soon!!! (We were working very hard, TRUST!) I learned so many tips and tricks from other community booths present, and was just in awe of all the amazing vendors at both markets! In the photo to the right, I snapped a pic of the mini plushie keychains this vendor was selling! I bought two for $8!! WHAT A STEAL!!! BECAUSE THEY WERE SO CUTE!!! The owner was very sweet, and I learned how to interact more with shoppers based on my experience with her. I also supported other vendors by buying a cute crochet chicken keychain and a pig in a blanket. As seen below!!!
Thats me buying a pig in a blanket!!

Last but not least, near the last hour on Saturday, I worked on developing and noting down notes that I took on our trip to the farmers market earlier that day!!! Then 5pm hit and it was time for me to go home!!!

Overall, my first week at OMSI has been amazing!!!! I have met many cool people, including other interns and staff that are helping me with my project!!!!  I am so grateful for this internship and can't wait how the second week goes tomorrow!!!! Thank you for reading everyone!!! If you liked this post, make sure to give it a like and share a comment down below!!!
With much love,
