Oregon Museum of Science and Industry - Keila Gonzalez Salazar, Week 2
Keila G @ OMSI!
Hello everyone!!! I hope everyone had a wonderful week, and I hope you enjoy this blog!!! It was definitely an interesting and hectic week!!! So, let's start with Wednesday!
I started week 2 by spending most of the day with the other interns, learning about various learning strategies and how to conduct demonstrations. We got into groups and had different demos that we were going to present to each other. My friend and I had a demo regarding different pigments we see in the world and in nature. Specifically, the science behind the pigment of blue and how light and angles affect what color we see. As shown in the box below, we had multiple blue items. Such as feathers and wings of various animals. In our demo, we used the wings of a blue butterfly and shined a flashlight at various angles to show how it can be different colors. So, from one perspective, it was blue, but from another, it was brown!! It was very interesting to learn about many different types of demonstrations a museum can use to engage visitors, but also teach something new!!On Thursday morning, I started working on sticker desgins for my project! My project during my internship involves planning an event to engage youth at OMSI's Teen Tech Center! So to promote TTC, we are doing a community outreach booth!!! Yay!! At our booth, we plan on having an interactive activity that teens and kids can enjoy! Also goodies!! I am currently in the works of planning out our sticker goodies anddd very limited edition tote bags!!!! Our theme for the booth is strawberries!!! I picked strawberries because they fit the theme of a farmers market(since we're going to a farmers market to promote), and it's something that everyone loves or knows about!!! In this photo, I was working in the TTC and sketching out some strawberry sticker designs and a how-to guide on making fruity keychains!!! Surprise!!! That's our interactive activity! Cute Keychains!!! This process taught me how much work goes into planning out goodies to pass out to people in the community, and also how to create an easy and accessible how-to guide.
I feel so powerful every time I go in this elevator! mwah ha ha |
