Dixon Gallery and Gardens—Fatima Hernandez, Week 4

 Dixon Gallery and Gardens

Breathtaking Gardens at Dixon

Buenas! This marks my last week at the beloved Dixon; a journey that I will miss without a doubt. I am extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to intern as everyone I worked with had and has shown me nothing but respect and kindness. This will be my last week working, but never my last week visiting as I hope to come back every year! Now let’s get into my activities for the week:

Monday

In the morning, the education sector had a meeting to discuss the tasks for the week and upcoming projects to plan. We discussed my responsibilities and then I went straight into finishing up in prepping the activity for family night, which was cutting the vinyl sticky papers in half and using the cricut to cut out the figures. By the end of the week, I was able to finish all of them.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, I assisted with the mini masters. The theme of the day was Bugs! Which the kids seemed to have fun with as near the end they were able to paint using fly swatters and plastic bugs. They were also read a story time about bugs and able to do many sorts of activities. Afterwards, I helped with other small tasks and continued with my ongoing projects, such as creating rainbow loom bracelets for the project pop up that I lead this Saturday.

Wednesday

The most exciting part of the day was when I assisted and helped with the munch and learn hosted by our guest speaker who was a Tap Dancer! Entertaining the audience, she gave the history of Black tap dancers with video examples of renowned performers. We, the audience, clapped along with her to a beat, and at the end she gave us not one, but two amazing performances of her own. Afterwards, I joined Cameron to the library where we were meant to allow teens to join in on an art activity.

Thursday

My last “official” day concluded with me starting off my day at Randolph library where I gave my last story time to the most enthusiastic kid. Afterwards, I went with Christen to Domino village where we put out an art activity for the kids to do. A busy day to end off and celebrate my time here at the Dixon.

I cannot, once again, express the gratitude I have for the Dixon and NMALYAP for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime to work with such amazing people. It’s bittersweet to move on, but I know that I will never, and could never, forget my time with them. With that, it’s a wrap!
