Los Angeles County Museum of Art– Carlos Madrid Week 4 Final Week
Wow, it feels so wild to think that this is my last time posting a blog late, and it was my last week interning at LACMA, I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunities which I experienced and the lessons I learned.
On Monday and Tuesday, I finalized and perfected aspects of my capstone project before my presentation on Wednesday to the education and public programs department. Additionally I worked on three informational training booklets for new art pieces for the docents. On Tuesday we had a fire drill and I thought it was cool that my name was on the booklet for checkins even though I was only at LACMA for a month lol!
Before my presentation on Wednesday I sat in on a special museum tour with one of my colleagues Arturo. It was interesting to see how he had to articulate due to the young age of the participants. I enjoyed the tour a lot and compared the similarities between docent tours, and gallery learning tours.
Presentation Time
On Wednesday I presented my capstone projected to my peers, and shared why teen involvement within museums is so necessary and important. I got so much amazing feedback and questions on my presentation and I hope that my capstone project inspired the education and public programs department to keep listening and inspiring young voices, just like my own. After my presentation my supervisor took me to lunch, it was my first time having Thai food and it was very yummy shoutout Gabriela!
BREAKFAST Library
I'm truly grateful for all the opportunities and experiences which I have learned while at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. I feel like I've grown so much during this past month. I know that no matter where I go, or what I'll do as museum curator I will always hold these lessons near and dear to my heart. I'd like to thank Gabriela, Arturo and Emily for being the best supervisors ever during my time at LACMA and supporting me when I completely understand something, and supporting me when I completely misunderstood something. I'd also like to sincerely thank Emily and Adrian for blessing me with this opportunity to lead in a field that I'm truly passionate about. There has always been a place for young Latinos within museums, and nothing proves that statement more than the Young Ambassadors Program.
