Museum of Latin American Art- Giselle Bustos, Week 4

My latest blog yet, but my best week too!

Because this is my last week, the summer camp at the Museum has already ended. Now completing my practicum ,my supervisor and I had discussed since the beginning of July that all the photographs I had been taking of the summer camp would serve purpose of a presented slideshow and the creation of a carousel post for the Museum's Instagram. I had Monday and Tuesday off so I was only assigned to create content for the rest of the week.

All the pictures I had been capturing and working Hands-On with the campers, served purpose for this week. Through the Canva application/website, I put together a digital post I would later use for the museum social media account.

My experiences this last week increase my knowledge of inner workings of museums because I was now the person in charge of promoting the museum and showing others why they should enroll family to the summer arts camp. From all I had been capturing as a communications and media intern it serve purpose to showing others what the campers did and why art is so important to remain engaged with. Throughout the weeks I learned about the purpose of art and storytelling comma educating, and practicing hands-On craft.

During week four, my 3 days at the Museum we're all spent in an office space on a computer working on this presentation project. Specifically, this project was to show others and the audience of the museum's social media my perspective as an intern capturing images of the campers. On some of the Carousel post,  I even included some anecdotes of some of my aha moments and where I was most inspired by the young artist.

Similar to how Jimmy capture pictures of us during Washington week, I took pictures of the campers in action creating art at camp.

Here I also thought it would be nice to include a screenshot from my own computer where I was on the Canva application working on the social media post. I featured a little sentence where I said most of my summer has been spent with young children and it is not something I would complain about.

I enjoyed my time with the kids and even made best friends with some of them. In the screenshot you can see where I worked on the Planton Movil Parade, and my not so human best friend I also made, Luca the Pomeranian!

Though my time at MOLAA has come to an end closing off week 4, it is one of the best experiences I have had within education. I feel immensely prepared to soon enter a new perspective as a college student making so many connections and relationships with professionals I aspire to become one day.

I am very thankful for the Smithsonian and the young ambassadors program for putting me in the right place to where I am now. I know I have been fostered and cultivated through the right steps to lead the future as a great first generation student at the #1 Public University soon.  Thank you to all my fellow young ambassadors and I hope you're practicums were as much enjoyable as mine was for me.

Sincerely, Giselle Bustos
