Oregon Museum of Science and Industry - Keila Gonzalez Salazar, Week 4!!!!!
Keila @ OMSI!!
Hello everybody!!!! I hope everyone had an amazing week, as well as my fellow YAP Ambassadors who completed their last week at their internship. YAY!! It's such a surreal thing to say that, but these weeks have gone by so quickly! But last blog, BEST BLOG!! So let's get to it!!!
(Quick note: My internship finished last week, but I was experiencing a lot of technical issues, so I couldn't share my wonderful adventures from my last week.)
On Wednesday morning, the internship group and I were in a workshop meeting with Alexis(One of our amazing staff<3) and learned more about how to chart our finalized project process to help us plan our final presentation to present to the staff who have been involved in helping us with our projects!Later that afternoon, I got started on working on my final design tote bags!!!! Throughout this process, I learned how to use the Cricut machine to make a digital design and actually cut out my heat press on vinyl. Not only that, but I learned how long it takes to make a tote bag. Which truly taught me how to value businesses that handcraft bags and other materials that take a long and specific process. Not only that, but to perfect a design, you always need patience and perseverance!
Thursday was the day of my final project!!!!! My mentor, Rubby and I headed off to the Rockwood Community Market during the late afternoon and started setting up for our OMSI booth with our interactive activity!!!
In this photo, you see me standing in front of a beautiful YAP poster I made for the booth!!!! Do not worry, I put pictures of everybody looking their very best! Nobody got clipped :)
Down below you can also see a photo of our activity setup!!! During this activity, I learned how to navigate different ways to teach an activity to multiple age groups and in an efficient way! I also learned how to be confident yet welcoming when getting visitors to visit our booth!!! One last lesson I learned during my time at my event was to always think positively, no matter what. As we started our soothing, there weren't a lot of people checking out our booth. It was very discouraging because when you put a lot of effort and work into something that doesn't work out, it makes it seem like it was for nothing or that it wasn't the best idea. However, after some time, people started checking out our booth!!! Not only were they teens and children, but they were from minority groups! It was exactly our target audience! From there on, we were able to get people to make keychains, but also learn more about OMSI, the TTC, and YAP!!! It was a success!!!!
On Friday at 1pm, it was time.... for my FINAL PRESENTATION!!!! I presented my final project slideshow to staff and my fellow internship buddies in the SERC room for the last time!!!! I overall presented my process throughout my project journey from beginning to end. My lovely Mentor from before got me snackies and even my own ICE CREAM sandwich cookie to celebrate my LAST DAY!! (tears)
A closer look at our setup!!! Would you visit our booth and make a keychain? Let me know in the comments!!!!

I was applauded and complemented for putting an event together in a short amount of time and was given feedback!
After my presentation, I had some free time, so I made my very own personalized Strawberry tote bag!!! It says my name on it! How cute!!!

Overall, my last week at OMSI was amazing. My whole internship at OMSI was AMAZING and such a wonderful, one-of-a-kind experience that I will never forget and will always be so grateful for!!!! I sadly was never able to read the Paletero book. (Sadness) But I was able to create beautiful friendships, working relationships, and crazy memories at OMSI. During my project assigned to me, I shed tears, sweat, and happiness from the whole process, yet I learned valuable lessons that have taught me more about all the work that goes into museum planning and, furthermore, event planning. Thank you to everyone who allowed me to have this opportunity at OMSI and overall with YAP. Muchas Gracias from the bottom of my heart.
Signing out,
Keila Gonzalez Salazar <3
