Week 2 Blog: Stories, Suits, and Songs- Marcos Mora De La Cruz

Image
Week 2 Blog: Stories, Suits, and Songs      This week, I had the chance to read Paletero Man at the West Town Library, and it was a meaningful experience. The story’s themes of community, kindness, and cultural pride really stood out, especially while reading in a public space that serves so many families. Paletero Man isn’t just a children’s book, it’s a reminder of how powerful and joyful it is to see our everyday lives reflected in literature.      Meanwhile, our creative work at the National Museum of Mexican Art continued. We’ve moved on to building the bodysuit for our alebrijes costumes, bringing these mythical creatures to life piece by piece. There’s something powerful about combining cultural imagination with hands-on labor. It’s not just costume-making, it’s a celebration of color, spirit, and resilience.      To top it all off, we’ve been learning to play “Cielito Lindo” on guitar. It’s a song that always brings people...

Keila G @ OMSI! Hello everyone!!! I hope everyone had a wonderful week, and I hope you enjoy this blog!!! It was definitely an interesting and hectic week!!! So, let's start with Wednesday! I started week 2 by spending most of the day with the other interns, learning about various learning strategies and how to conduct demonstrations. We got into groups and had different demos that we were going to present to each other. My friend and I had a demo regarding different pigments we see in the world and in nature. Specifically, the science behind the pigment of blue and how light and angles affect what color we see. As shown in the box below, we had multiple blue items. Such as feathers and wings of various animals. In our demo, we used the wings of a blue butterfly and shined a flashlight at various angles to show how it can be different colors. So, from one perspective, it was blue, but from another, it was brown!! It was very interesting to learn about many different types of demon...

July 18, 2025 History of Colorado Center Hi Everyone! Bienvenidos a mi resumen de la semana #2 en el History of Colorado Center. This week was a little bit different from week #1, but I still found it interesting and intriguing! I worked remotely on Tuesday, so I finished a part of the project (Colorado's symbols and important people) I was working on the previous week. On Wednesday morning I had a meeting with my supervisor; we just did a quick check-in of how my first week had gone! After that, I watched a Smithsonian National Education Summit virtual livestream, and I recognized the amazing Secretary Lonnie G. Bunch! If you remember, we met him briefly during our week in Washington, D.C. He talked about the 250th anniversary and the importance of the Declaration of Independence, our history and those who have upheld our nation's ideals, and advancing our future and protecting our democracy.  Later that afternoon, I met with my co-worker who I would be working on a different...

The Museum of Kansas City - Itzel Garcia-Hernandez, Week 2

Image
Hello, everyone! Welcome back to my internship recap. This week has been amazing, and I got to participate many great activities. July 13 I arrived bright and early at 9am to help set up for an event that was happening on the east lawn of the Museum of Kansas City in partnership with the StoneLion Theatre. It was an event mainly for kids with puppets, fairies, facepainting, crafting, and ice cream. I helped set up the tents, tables, and chairs, and helped set up prizes for a scavenger hunt that was also happening during the event. The event started at 1pm and I along with Paul, the one who planned the event, started to check people in. It was so nice getting to see kids have fun. I especially loved seeing the little outfits they had on as many of them had dressed up as fairies. I feel that it was a great example of how MKC tries to be more than museum, more than a place to learn about history; it tries to be a place where the community can come together, a place where people can i...

Week 2!!                       Hello again everyone! This week has flown by fast :). On Monday and Friday, I worked remotely. On Tuesday, I worked at the Ceramic Research Center, and on Wednesday and Thursday, I worked at the ASU Art Museum.           Most of my tasks have stayed the same throughout the week. My primary role is researching information for upcoming exhibits and events. I have been expanding my research on the indigenous ceramics and artists, and I have started formatting the guide. In addition to the research I've gathered, I have to include elements of art and design.  Doing research in the museum workshop At the Ceramic Research Center, I mainly focused on the Mexican Independence Day celebration. I had my supervisor ...
