San Diego History Center - Diego Diaz, Week 3

Image
San Diego History Center - Diego Diaz, Week 3 Hello everyone! Welcome back for my week 3 recap at the San Diego History Center. This week started off by working remotely, continuously adding on to my curiosity cart, script, infographic, timeline, and descriptions. I was able to get much done and focus mainly on finalizing research details for the script, as well as work on the City Heights organization descriptions. The following day, I had the opportunity of joining in on a meeting, generally occurring weekly with the collections staff. I found myself very engaged as I observed how they plan to relocate various artifacts including an early 1990s’ piano and various other household pieces. The rest of the day consisted of working on the given projects, and going down to the collections room in discussing my progress with Jen, our program manager.  Wednesday, I got the opportunity to view a variety of items which were newly donated to the collection. I observed as the collecti...

Dominican Studies Institute Week 3

Image
This week, I’ve once again been deep in the archives. Since the content I’ve been working with hasn’t changed much mostly going through photographs the main difference I can share is what I thought about what I was seeing. I spent a lot of time looking through pictures of a woman named Normandia, a community organizer from a neighboring district to where I grew up. She organized and led huge block parties that featured traditional dresses and dances events I actually took part in when I was younger and other Hispanic oriented events. It felt personal and nostalgic to see those moments frozen in time.  (one of the events)  Aside from selecting photos, I was also tasked with researching the Church of Saint Rose of Lima and exploring the cultural impact it had on the New York community, especially among Dominicans. That research has been incredibly fulfilling. The church's contributions are hidden gems quiet but enduring. And I can confidently say that my research skill...

Week 3: Our Final Celebration of Art, Music, and Culture

Image
Week 3 was all about catching up and preparing for our big final day. Since this was a makeup week, we had the chance to finish our zines, polish our artwork, and add the last details to our projects. I focused on helping complete the full alebrije costumes, this time working on the bodysuits that matched our colorful headpieces from earlier weeks. The room was buzzing with excitement and last-minute hot glue, glitter, and paint. It felt like everyone was on a mission to finish strong and make sure their work reflected their full creative energy. Throughout the week, I also supported younger campers with their crafts and practiced guitar for our final performance. We decided to play Los Colores and Cielito Lindo, two songs that bring joy and pride to the Latino community. Practicing together built a strong bond between us, and the music became a soundtrack for everything we had created this summer. Even while we worked, you could hear someone humming or strumming along. It made ...

Week 3.~ ₊✩‧₊˚౨ৎ˚₊✩‧₊ ᡣ𐭩 ~.Conservation.~     Hi! For this week, I thought I'd place a bit more emphasis on content rather than visuals, which is why this blog will feel just a tad bit different and perhaps a bit longer :-) I hope you enjoy nonetheless.  ⋆。˚ 𓆝⋆。˚ 𓇼  𓇼 ⋆。˚ 𓆝⋆。˚ 𓇼  𓇼 ⋆。˚ 𓆝⋆。˚  MONDAY  To start off this wonderful week, I almost got lost.. again... One thing about the Frost is that there are about fifty different entrances, and none of them are connected. Not only that, but when you start accounting for all the secret staff entrances.. lets just say that I never stood a chance.                                                                                                ...

Los Angeles County Museum of Art– Carlos Madrid Week 3

Image
Los Angeles County Museum of Art– Carlos Madrid Week 3 This past week I worked on numerous slideshow presentations to assist curators and the education department train docents. Curators explained the processes behind curation specifically in preparation for the upcoming opening of the David Geffen Galleries which aims to break hierarchies within the museum. In the Galleries objects from different time periods, mediums, and areas will displayed closely together.  CURATORIAL CHATS Here is one of the slidedeck presentations I helped with under the prints collection. Additionally on Monday I was able to pick out an artwork for students to observe in upcoming school tours with my colleague ARTuro (I thought that was funny)! We picked Alfredo Lam's Trópico.  TRÓPICO After picking this art piece I did more research throughout the week on this art piece and Alfredo Lam. I learned a lot about Lam's multicultural background and how that influenced his artwork. I had learned abou...

Keila @ OMSI!! My internship cohort <3 Hello everyone! I hope you are all having a wonderful day and continue to have an amazing week! Now, let's get to the recap of Week 3! It was busy, busy, BUSY!!! So let's get to it!!!  Making a mind map   On the bright and early morning of Wednesday,  I ended up straight away in an early meeting with the rest of my intern cohort. We were led by one of the wonderful mentors, Alexis! She gave us a presentation and workshop on how to project plan. Specifically, the basics of the discovery and research part of a project. It was fun while being super informative. I am truly amazed by all the wonderful knowledge I am able to learn from all the experienced staff at OMSI!! Sticker Prototype In the afternoon, I started making and testing a prototype of my tote bag design! As one of the key steps in project planning is prototyping!!! To create this design, I learned how to use the Cricut Design Space app! It was actually very easy an...

Arte Américas - ❀ Isabelle O'Neill ❀, Week 2

Image
☙❂✵Week 2✵❂❧ ❦     Hey guys! Week 2 is over, and it was pretty stressful (in a good way)! I showed up to work on Tuesday and attended a Teaching Artist Education workshop held at Arte Américas. I got to meet some really cool people and made a vision board/digital collage of what community means to me and how I identify myself.   I even added some pictures of you guys, as I am very honored to be part of the YAP network! This is the social contract we created on day 1 ❦     Wednesday was day 2 of this training, and we learned a lot about how to create curriculum that meets state education standards, particularly in English Language Arts. We were assigned to grab any kids' books in the room and look for the best ways to engage a classroom with storytelling and art activities. I chose to stick with Paletero Man since we are all assigned to read it anyway! This allowed me to use some critical thinking on the best ways to approach different age levels ...

Dixon Gallery and Gardens—Fatima Hernandez, Week 3

Image
Dixon Gallery and Gardens—Fatima Hernandez, Week 3 Buenas! Another week, another remarkable experience I spent here at the Dixon! Lets dive into it—> I held my first story time at a program offered here in Memphis called Desayuno con Libros, an event where once a month they meet to eat breakfast while reading and taking home free books. I invited my friend, Anh, to accompany me and with her we were able to hold a nice story time for the kids attending.  I can’t wait for my next story time!! Monday On Monday I worked on preparing the activity for the community night that was to be held in coming days at the Dixon. Using a cricut machine—after much instruction— I spent most of my time cutting out the figures. So far I had only cut around 50 of the 250 we needed. Tuesday On Tuesday, I attended the brunch and learn that they have weekly. This week we had an amazing person who spoke about the progressive era and gilded age! Afterwards, we visited, in part with the Outreach pro...

History Colorado Center – Elizabeth Bello Aldaco, Week 3

Image
History Colorado Center  Hey everyone, welcome back! I want to start off by saying that I can not believe next week is my last week,  time has flown by super quickly!! Anyway, this week was filled with a lot of engaging learning experiences, and I actually remembered to take pictures! To start off Tuesday, it was a calm work-online day for me, so I did not interact with visitors or the camp kiddos. I finished up researching pictures on the digital collection History Colorado Center has for the biographies of people who were influential in Colorado. This is all to prepare for Colorado's 150th anniversary exhibit. On Wednesday I did a little bit of research on the borderlands of Southern Colorado. This research will be helpful for future activities the camp kids will be doing. My supervisor, April, and I then headed to the state capitol for a tour! This tour was to help us with our research that I mentioned in week 1. I got to learn more about the Capitol's "circle of fame...
