Week 2 Blog: Stories, Suits, and Songs- Marcos Mora De La Cruz

Image
Week 2 Blog: Stories, Suits, and Songs      This week, I had the chance to read Paletero Man at the West Town Library, and it was a meaningful experience. The story’s themes of community, kindness, and cultural pride really stood out, especially while reading in a public space that serves so many families. Paletero Man isn’t just a children’s book, it’s a reminder of how powerful and joyful it is to see our everyday lives reflected in literature.      Meanwhile, our creative work at the National Museum of Mexican Art continued. We’ve moved on to building the bodysuit for our alebrijes costumes, bringing these mythical creatures to life piece by piece. There’s something powerful about combining cultural imagination with hands-on labor. It’s not just costume-making, it’s a celebration of color, spirit, and resilience.      To top it all off, we’ve been learning to play “Cielito Lindo” on guitar. It’s a song that always brings people...

Keila G @ OMSI! Hello everyone!!! I hope everyone had a wonderful week, and I hope you enjoy this blog!!! It was definitely an interesting and hectic week!!! So, let's start with Wednesday! I started week 2 by spending most of the day with the other interns, learning about various learning strategies and how to conduct demonstrations. We got into groups and had different demos that we were going to present to each other. My friend and I had a demo regarding different pigments we see in the world and in nature. Specifically, the science behind the pigment of blue and how light and angles affect what color we see. As shown in the box below, we had multiple blue items. Such as feathers and wings of various animals. In our demo, we used the wings of a blue butterfly and shined a flashlight at various angles to show how it can be different colors. So, from one perspective, it was blue, but from another, it was brown!! It was very interesting to learn about many different types of demon...

July 18, 2025 History of Colorado Center Hi Everyone! Bienvenidos a mi resumen de la semana #2 en el History of Colorado Center. This week was a little bit different from week #1, but I still found it interesting and intriguing! I worked remotely on Tuesday, so I finished a part of the project (Colorado's symbols and important people) I was working on the previous week. On Wednesday morning I had a meeting with my supervisor; we just did a quick check-in of how my first week had gone! After that, I watched a Smithsonian National Education Summit virtual livestream, and I recognized the amazing Secretary Lonnie G. Bunch! If you remember, we met him briefly during our week in Washington, D.C. He talked about the 250th anniversary and the importance of the Declaration of Independence, our history and those who have upheld our nation's ideals, and advancing our future and protecting our democracy.  Later that afternoon, I met with my co-worker who I would be working on a different...

The Museum of Kansas City - Itzel Garcia-Hernandez, Week 2

Image
Hello, everyone! Welcome back to my internship recap. This week has been amazing, and I got to participate many great activities. July 13 I arrived bright and early at 9am to help set up for an event that was happening on the east lawn of the Museum of Kansas City in partnership with the StoneLion Theatre. It was an event mainly for kids with puppets, fairies, facepainting, crafting, and ice cream. I helped set up the tents, tables, and chairs, and helped set up prizes for a scavenger hunt that was also happening during the event. The event started at 1pm and I along with Paul, the one who planned the event, started to check people in. It was so nice getting to see kids have fun. I especially loved seeing the little outfits they had on as many of them had dressed up as fairies. I feel that it was a great example of how MKC tries to be more than museum, more than a place to learn about history; it tries to be a place where the community can come together, a place where people can i...

Week 2!!                       Hello again everyone! This week has flown by fast :). On Monday and Friday, I worked remotely. On Tuesday, I worked at the Ceramic Research Center, and on Wednesday and Thursday, I worked at the ASU Art Museum.           Most of my tasks have stayed the same throughout the week. My primary role is researching information for upcoming exhibits and events. I have been expanding my research on the indigenous ceramics and artists, and I have started formatting the guide. In addition to the research I've gathered, I have to include elements of art and design.  Doing research in the museum workshop At the Ceramic Research Center, I mainly focused on the Mexican Independence Day celebration. I had my supervisor ...

Dixon Gallery and Gardens-Fatima Hernandez, Week 2 Buenas!  This marks my second week for my internship at the Dixon and it was, no doubt, just as exciting as the first! Monday I began the day with a tour of the new exhibition featuring Susan Watkins as the central theme of the art surrounded the representing Women in the Arts. The tour guide was impeccable as he spoke about the importance of exhibitions such as these as it brings forth a diverse perspective in history—one that many seem to forget. Afterwards, I worked on one of my ongoing projects which included brainstorming ideas for a pop up and family night. Wednesday My work on Wednesday included helping out with the programs that the Dixon offered. In the morning, a camp arrived and I was working with them on an activity which included creating a collaged interior. Like the previous week, I helped with Mini Masters, the theme of the day being Frogs!! They were able to dress up as frogs using unusual items such as part...

Museo de Historia, Antropología y Arte Melanie Torres Crespo - Week 2 Hola!! Welcome again to my recap of week #2 at the Museum of History, Anthropology, and Art. This week has been extremely interesting and fun! This past Saturday , I had my reading event at the San Juan Community Library. I was able to do two reading sessions, since the kids arrived at different intervals of time.  Even though I was very nervous, this was a extremely enjoyable activity! It was so interesting to hear the children's interpretation of Paletero Man , see their drawings, and hear their favorite paleta flavors. They were very lovely!  Big thanks to the YAP alum and all the staff of this library! They were super nice, helpful, and engaged with this activity. On Monday ,  I finished organizing a closet with seasonal materials utilized throughout the year for several community activities, such as costumes, posters, and decorations.  Furthermore, I kept researching for my individua...

San Diego History Center - Diego Diaz, Week 1

Image
San Diego History Center - Diego Diaz, Week 1 Hello, everyone. July 9th (Wednesday) marked my official first day at the San Diego History Center (SDHC)! It has been an honor and privilege to work with my fellow colleagues, understanding how a museum is a complex multifaceted scene that works tirelessly to produce a welcoming environment to its guests.                                                              My first day consisted of becoming familiar with the museum as well as its surrounding area of Balboa park. To do this, I was given the task of selecting a few museums out of eighteen housed within the park, exploring them as a visitor. My task was simple - determine whether or not the museum was user friendly, noting any signage within the interior and exterior.  While visiting the Timken Museum of Art, I explored the man...

Welcome back for another blog everyone! This week was definitely exciting as I got to interact with so many new people, let’s get into it 😀. I started my week off by helping give a tour to a group of high schoolers a part of the Hispanic National Bar Foundation. The mission of this foundation is to help Hispanics achieve a career in the legal work field while advocating for diversity in legal professions; I highly recommend checking it out if interested! During the tour I helped shadow Jorge and Natalia while also getting to learn more enticing facts about...
