Arte Américas - ❀ Isabelle O'Neill ❀, Week 4

Image
☙❂✵Week 4✵❂❧ ❦    Hi guys! Wow, it's my final week of my internship, and I am not ready for it to end. I'm still working with marketing and development, as well as some more projects with Excel. I've helped many people renew their memberships and been in contact with some pretty important donors, like the former mayor of Fresno and other important business people in the Central Valley. Hi Sudan! ❦    On Tuesday, my boss decided to take me on a little field trip over to a marketing agency building down the street. The building was historic, and actually used to be a theater. I learned a lot about the various roles within a marketing agency, ranging from web developers to an audio engineer. I don't have many pictures of the building since people were working and it was a bit of a short tour, but I did get this picture of a rhino statue. I got to learn more about the businesses in downtown Fresno, and it really opened my eyes to a place that I had assumed I knew ...

Image
Keila @ OMSI!! Hello everybody!!!! I hope everyone had an amazing week, as well as my fellow YAP Ambassadors who completed their last week at their internship. YAY!! It's such a surreal thing to say that, but these weeks have gone by so quickly! But last blog, BEST BLOG!! So let's get to it!!! (Quick note: My internship finished last week, but I was experiencing a lot of technical issues, so I couldn't share my wonderful adventures from my last week.) On Wednesday morning, the internship group and I were in a workshop meeting with Alexis(One of our amazing staff<3) and learned more about how to chart our finalized project process to help us plan our final presentation to present to the staff who have been involved in helping us with our projects! Later that afternoon, I got started on working on my final design tote bags!!!! Throughout this process, I learned how to use the Cricut machine to make a digital design and actually cut out my heat press on vinyl. Not only that...

National Hispanic Cultural Center — Fausto Dozal, Week 4

Image
On August 4th—a shortened day—I began compiling my research on “Think, See, Feel” into a presentable document. On August 5th, I continued to work on my Think, See, Feel presentation. On August 6th, I helped finalize research that the other interns were doing and also got to see two other interns present two pieces of art for the selection committee to vote on. I and the other interns also met with the graphic designer to learn about what she does within the museum. On August 7th, I attended an all-staff meeting at the NHCC and presented my Think, See, Feel research using an existing art piece in the museum. In August 8th, I met with Elena Baca and debriefed further about my research.

Image
Museo de Historia, Antropología y Arte Melanie Torres Crespo - Week 5 Hello everyone! Welcome to my final week at the Museum of History, Anthropology, and Art. I'm so sad that this marvelous experience has ended. However, I am also extremely grateful and thankful to have had the opportunity to meet the all of the amazing staff, learn more about how museums work, and overall just immerse myself in this fantastic experience. Indeed, it was once in a lifetime type of opportunity that I will always treasure in my heart! During Monday and Tuesday , my main focus was ensuring that all materials needed for the upcoming orientation was finished, packaged, and ready to transport. I finished fixing all brochures, cut papers for promotional events.  I also assisted in the exhibition and even guided some visitors through the different areas, answering their questions and explaining the art pieces.  Furthermore, I had an opportunity to explore the university campus and learn more a...

El Paso Museum of History – Andres Valle, Week 4

Image
Hi everyone! Today was my last day at the El Paso Museum of History—it marks a bittersweet moment for me, as I go to say goodbye to some of the best people who I got to call friends. Let's get through this week! Since it was my last week here, we collectively decided to enjoy the moments of tenderness and chill out with everything. Like in my last post, I've been preparing to present my workshop at the library, so Monday I was preparing some more: finishing my presentation, zine, etc.  On Tuesday, I spent the first half talking to my supervisor, Nora, about my time at the internship and if I thought I did everything I'd like to do, e.g., community outreach, aiding with exhibits, etc., and of course, I said YES! The rest of the afternoon, I went to visit Centre Future, discussing more types of collaboration we could do in the future.  Wednesday came, and I spent the day reflecting on my time at the museum, and Nora helped me fix up my resume.  On Thursday, we threw a littl...

San Diego History Center - Diego Diaz, Week 4

Image
San Diego History Center - Diego Diaz, Week 4 Hello and welcome back everyone to my final (late) vlog for my time spent at the San Diego History Center. It has been a fulfilling experience to delve within the broad community oriented environment I have been immersed in for the last four weeks. This week, I was granted the opportunity to continue exploring the inner workings of a museum, while also getting to become more immersed within the community through the children's book reading at the San Diego Central Library.  While both Monday and Tuesday were spent on continuing to finish the projects, I spent Wednesday at the Central Library reading Paletero Man. The moments leading up to the event, I was extremely nervous as I spent my time reviewing YouTube videos and reading over the tips listed on the YAP handbook. However, when I arrived at the library I felt welcomed by the librarians and it allowed me to feel more prepared as I asked questions and got helpful feedback o...

Los Angeles County Museum of Art– Carlos Madrid Week 4 Final Week

Image
Los Angeles County Museum of Art– Carlos Madrid Week 4 Final Week Wow, it feels so wild to think that this is my last time posting a blog late, and it was my last week interning at LACMA, I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunities which I experienced and the lessons I learned.  On Monday and Tuesday, I finalized and perfected aspects of my capstone project before my presentation on Wednesday to the education and public programs department. Additionally I worked on three informational training booklets for new art pieces for the docents. On Tuesday we had a fire drill and I thought it was cool that my name was on the booklet for checkins even though I was only at LACMA for a month lol!  Before my presentation on Wednesday I sat in on a special museum tour with one of my colleagues Arturo. It was interesting to see how he had to articulate due to the young age of the participants. I enjoyed the tour a lot and compared the similarities between docent tours, and gallery learnin...

Museum of Latin American Art- Giselle Bustos, Week 4

Image
My latest blog yet, but my best week too! Because this is my last week, the summer camp at the Museum has already ended. Now completing my practicum ,my supervisor and I had discussed since the beginning of July that all the photographs I had been taking of the summer camp would serve purpose of a presented slideshow and the creation of a carousel post for the Museum's Instagram. I had Monday and Tuesday off so I was only assigned to create content for the rest of the week.   All the pictures I had been capturing and working Hands-On with the campers, served purpose for this week. Through the Canva application/website, I put together a digital post I would later use for the museum social media account.  My experiences this last week increase my knowledge of inner workings of museums because I was now the person in charge of promoting the museum and showing others why they should enroll family to the summer arts camp. From all I had been capturing as a communications...

Museum of Latin American Art - Week 3 -Giselle Bustos

Image
(I might have gotten caught up I the fun...  ;D Spending my third week of July at MOLAA in Long Beach, I have learned a lot of new things and even re- encountered with activities I thought I would leave in elementary. This week I was assigned to work with summer campers at the museum in arts and crafts such as making community objects out of clay. The campers and I were assigned to make animals, buildings, and even plants that represented parts of our communities. These would all later be portrayed in our retablos from week 2, where we learned about Peruvian storytelling and culture.  My highlight of this week had to be where I participated in a Planton Movil, inspired by Lucia Monge. Lucia Monge was actually able to engage with the campers and I in a zoom panel. This experience has increased my knowledge of the inter workings of museums and culture organizations because I have understood how important green equity is to all communities. Here you can even see where I ask...

El Paso Museum of History – Andres Valle, Week 3

Image
Better late than never!  My time here at the El Paso Museum of History has been extremely fulfilling—ever so reminding me of the power community holds and the need to highlight our history. Wednesday was the first day of week three for me. I spent time visiting Centre Future, a program the library offers, which also happens to be where I will be hosting my workshop. With the staff there, we discussed the logistics of the event and the framing of the workshop: conversation, presentation, etc. After our quick chat, I continued to work on the activities I wanted to have at the workshop—calling it a day! A picture of the sketches The following    day, Thursday, I spent more time on my presentation and helped with one of the cool programs the museum was hosting—Architecture Camp! A program that brings high school-aged students together, who then design a structure and help build it; the structure will be highlighted in the museum for the next several weeks!  On Friday, th...

The Museum of Kansas City - Itzel Garcia-Hernandez, Week 4

Image
Hello, everyone! Welcome to week 4 of my internship! July 30      This was when I was finally able to read the Paletero Man at my local library. It was such a great experience to be able to give back to the community at the library I've been going to since I was a little kid. I got there an hour early and was able to meet Lilliana, who is often in charge of bilingual story times every Saturday at the library, she showed me to the room I was going to be using and gave me rundown of how things usually go during a story time. After that all I had to do is wait for everyone to start trickling in so I could get started. After the story time the kids took their seats and got to working on their coloring books while they ate paletas.      After that, Dr. Chavez and I took the opportunity to inform people at the library and other places around the area about different events that were going to be taking place the following week. Which included a car show tha...
